Well, I sorta do...

As a kid, nothing scared me more (other than clowns), was the creature from Alien. Perhaps, I was too young to when I saw the first Alien movie. While clowns still creep me out, I overcame the Alien phobia and the second movie, Aliens, is one of my all time favorite flics. I still think the Alien creature is bad ass, and this life size statue would make a great watch dog while I'm out -

Hign Noon - With a twist

While not my mainstream movie genre, I do have a soft spot for westerns. One of the better ones is High Noon (Gary Cooper at his best). Below is an interesting mash-up of scenes of the movie to one of the soundtracks of a classic Clint Eastwood western - Two Mules for Sister Sarah. If High Noon would of come out now, I think this would of been a cool trailer.

P.S. - Here are some Westerns I think that are required viewing if you never seen a western before (brace yourself - some are kinda cheesy, yet entertaining)

Who cannot think of John Wayne when you say the word westerns? El Dorado - My personal favorite of his is a classic Howard Hawks film, staring Wayne, Robert Mitchum, and a young James Caan. What really gets me is the friendship and loyalties portrayed in the film.

While on the subject of John Wayne, I also recommend one of his ealier films, Stagecoach. This one is directed by John Ford and also has one of my favorite "B" cowboys - Tim Holt (who actually makes a great supporting actor in the "A" films).

Another great actor (in my opinion) is Glen Ford. One of his best westerns is The Fastest Gun Alive. Here, Ford, an ex-gun man is trying to escape his past and his secrests having one of the quickest draws comes to haunt his new life, along with the town they are living in.

Another great modern western is the 80s movie, Silverado. This has a huge cast of well known actors - Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, a young Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover, just to name a few. This story revolves around several sub plots that join together at the end with the main theme of righting a wrong. Again like El Dorado, its the comradely of the actors and the bonds that are form, that makes this stand out.

Moving into the 90s, Tombstone stands as one of Val Kilmers best performances as Doc Holiday. In my opinion, his role stole the movie. Of course this story revolves around the imfamous, Shootout at the O.K. Corral. It's Kilmer's deep friendship with Kurt Russell (as Wyat Erp) that makes this movie special to me. Again, some big names in this one - all star cast including Sam Elliot (who has the coolest voice ever!!), Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, and the sexy Dana Delany. Another note worthy actor - Powers Boothe (who to me, always makes a great bad ass) does a great job in this film. Warning - tangent ahead If you like the film noir/private eye genre - you need to see the 1985 series Philip Marlowe, Private Eye, were Boothe portrayes an outstanding Phillip Marlowe. Ok...back to the westerns....if you haven't noticed, a lot of the movies I'm listing revolve around friendships, honor, and loyalty.

Of course there are others greats like the Clint Eastwood films, but that's another post.

Steven Spielberg to adapt Ghost in the Shell

Ok...I'm a huge fan the Ghost in the Shell franchise, especially the series, Stand Alone Complex. It's one of the best animes out there (with Cowboy Bebop a close second). So I nearly pooped myself when I saw this in the news -

"Steven Spielberg will adapt Ghost in the Shell, a futuristic crime thriller based on the 1989 Japanese comic, or manga, that spawned a half-dozen films and video games. No release date has been set."

Toy Story Movies to be in 3D

While I've only seen the first one (and liked it), this sounded pretty cool.

The Walt Disney Studios plans to debut new Disney Digital 3-D(TM) versions of Disney- Pixar's "Toy Story" on October 2nd, 2009, and "Toy Story 2" on February 12th, 2010, it was announced by Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. Both of these beloved animated features are being newly converted to 3-D in advance of the June 18th, 2010 release of Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story 3," which is being produced as a 3-D motion picture and will represent the state-of-the-art for the genre. Veteran Pixar filmmaker Lee Unkrich (co-director "Toy Story 2") is directing. Academy Award®-winning filmmaker John Lasseter will personally oversee the creative side of the 3-D conversions for "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" with his acclaimed team of technical wizards handling all the necessary steps in the conversion process. In converting "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" to state-of-the-art 3-D films, the technical team is retrieving all of the original digital elements and rebuilding them in 3-D.
