eMachine woes...
Ok...so three years ago, I bought my Parents an emachine for Christmas. At the time, it seemed like the right idea. Their quality improved, and the price was right for an AMD XP2800. Both are in their 60s and they mainly surf the web and are into digital photography. A few months later, Mom bought another one for herself. (Yes, both of my Parents have their own computer). Anyhow, Dad's died last Monday and my Mom's died on Friday. I'm not sure what caused it, but I have to think it was power related for both to go out roughly the same time. Dad's motherboard was fried and Mom's wouldn't even turn on. Fortunately both of their hard drives still worked. When it was all said and done, both of them ended up getting new PCs - both got Compaq - Presario desktop with Intel® Pentium® D Processor 820, a gig of ram, 250 gig hard drive, and a light scribe dvd burner for less than $600s a piece. Here's a quick synopsis from PC Mag - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2069958,00.asp
In case you are wondering, my two year old rig is the following -
Make and Model - ABS Ultimate M5^64 (http://www.abs.com/)
Processor - AMD 64 3000+
Memory - 1 gig of OCZ PC3200
Hard Drive - 2 120 gig Western Digital - WD 7200 WD1200JD 8MB - RAID 0
Graphics - I upgraded my NVIDIA GF FX 5700 Ultra 128M with a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 128M
Of course, I have a DVD burner as well
I used to be somewhat of a gamer - mostly UT 2003/2004. I still play from time to time, but not as much as I use to.
